Sustainability Manager

The Role

GNT is seeking a talented and motivated Sustainability Manager to join our team in Mierlo, Netherlands. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working with an international cross-functional team, this will be one of our first dedicated hires focused exclusively on sustainability. The successful applicant will therefore play a central role in shaping our activities in this area. Reporting from the ground up, they will lead our efforts to position GNT at the forefront of impact measurement and sustainability storytelling, while helping to build a thriving internal sustainability community as part our corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying, developing and implementing opportunities for GNT to take a lead on sustainability.

  • As appropriate, adapting GNT’s global sustainability strategies to local, national and regional circumstances.

  • Initiating and overseeing GNT’s sustainability programs both within and beyond our supply chain.

  • Managing the sustainability aspects of GNT‘s internal projects.

  • Monitoring the progress of our sustainability objectives using agreed metrics.

  • Participating in external, multi-stakeholder platform initiatives, positioning GNT as a major driver of sustainable business practices.

  • Meeting with sustainability peers at supplier and customer level; finding opportunities for collaboration; participating in and leading working groups.

  • Monitoring emerging trends, global developments and competitor practices, and aligning our strategies and activities as appropriate.

  • Preparing and analyzing data for sustainability reporting, and working closely with Marketing Communications to build awareness, understanding and recognition of GNT’s sustainability activities.

  • Managing the budgets allocated to our various sustainability projects.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. sustainability, environmental science)

  • At least five years’ relevant experience. preferably in the B2B agrifood sector

  • Experience of working directly with stakeholders, such as NGOs, suppliers, customers, certification & standards bodies and consultants

  • Excellent project management skills

  • A sense of ownership, an entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to work independently

  • Strong presentation skills, with an ability to persuade and influence others in order to facilitate acceptance and agreement

  • Analytical skills, a strategic mindset and attention to detail

  • Fluency in English and Dutch (spoken and written); proficiency in other languages will be considered a plus

  • Willingness to travel internationally (about 15% of the time)

  • A talent for adapting to foreign and multi-cultural environments

  • Ability to work closely with remote teams, without a hierarchical line of reporting
