Tissue Culture & Laboratory Specialist
We are seeking a motivated, responsible, and detail-oriented Tissue Culture & Laboratory Specialist to join our agricultural team. This role will support laboratory & greenhouse operations and plays a critical part in maintaining research quality, data integrity, and operational coordination.
The successful candidate will be involved in crop laboratory processing, plant tissue culture, data curation, and the development and maintenance of laboratory documentation and procedures. This position serves as a key point of coordination between Agronomists and the Greenhouse manager, requiring strong communication skills and a high level of accountability. This role is ideal for an individual who takes pride in performing tasks correctly, pays close attention to detail, and is comfortable establishing and following laboratory techniques, and research protocols in a fast-paced environment.
The role:
- Perform plant tissue culture activities, including micropropagation, meristem isolation, media preparation, labeling, autoclaving, and maintenance of sterile cultures
- Assist with greenhouse and field trials: planting, monitoring, sampling, and other trial activities
- Curate, manage, and ensure the integrity of research data across lab, greenhouse, and field operations
- Reconcile and update seed inventory, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation of all materials
- Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), data entry procedures, and laboratory protocols
- Coordinate workflow and schedules between lab staff, Agronomists, and the Greenhouse to ensure experiments and trials run smoothly
- Order and manage supplies for laboratory, greenhouse, and field work, maintaining proper inventory and anticipating needs
- Maintain lab equipment, following standard operating procedures for safety and quality control
- Document procedures and results thoroughly and accurately, ensuring all records are current and accessible
- Collaborate with team members across departments to ensure smooth communication and data flow
- Perform additional duties as assigned by lab leadership
About you, as our ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Biology, or Agriculture preferred, but candidates with other college degrees demonstrating intelligence, responsibility, and strong learning ability will be considered
- Highly responsible, meticulous, and committed to quality and accuracy
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new software, protocols, and laboratory techniques
- Strong organizational and data management skills; ensures accuracy and continuity across lab, greenhouse, and field work
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate tasks and schedules between multiple team members
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently and sit or stand for extended periods
- Enthusiasm for working with plants and contributing to agricultural research
- Motivated to start or transition into a career in plant science or agricultural research
